CNES FIELD TARGETS

To accompany the observations made onboard of Demeter satellite, CNES supports the implementation of ground-based stations in two tectonically active sites; one in Corinth gulf (Greece) to study the generation mechanism of earthquakes and the other one to study the volcanic processes of  La Fournaise (Réunion Island).

The project is also developed through international cooperation.

Location of the two main Demeter ground-based electromagnetic CNES  stations:

- One station is set in Corinth Gulf (Greece) where a large earthquake of magnitude above 6 could occur in the next years.

- One station is located on the active basaltic La Fournaise volcano in Réunion Island where at least one eruption occurs every year.

V, I and T  represent the location of pilot sites through international scientific cooperation.
